The Mesa Verde Museum Association (MVMA) Bookstore and tour ticket office will close its Colorado Welcome Center Cortez location at the end of the day on October 28. It will not reopen at this location next year.

Mesa Verde National Park Artist in Residence Program Welcomes Durango Photographer Kit Frost
Photographer Kit Frost of Durango, Colorado is October’s Artist in Residence at Mesa Verde National Park. She will offer a free public program, “Artists in Our National Parks” on Friday, October 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Far View Lodge Library in the park.

Artist in Resident, Carol Chamberland Offers Free Public Programs at Mesa Verde
Mesa Verde National Park welcomes painter Carol Chamberland of Albuquerque, New Mexico as its next Artist in Residence. During Carol’s residency, two free public programs will be offered: A presentation on Thursday, September 28 at the Mancos Public Library, and a Trails-side Drawing Hike on Friday, September 29, from Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum.

Mesa Verde Voices, a podcast series connecting the experiences of people from the past with the people of today, launches on September 1, 2017. Mesa Verde National Park, Mesa Verde Museum Association, KSJD public radio and Mesa Verde Country Tourism Bureau collaborated to produce the pilot season.

Mesa Verde Experiences Increased Bear Activity
Due to a late season freeze in southwest Colorado, some common food sources for bears, like acorns, chokecherries, and serviceberries, are present in much smaller quantities this summer. The absence of these food sources have left bears looking for alternative food sources across this area of the state, and have increased their contact with humans. The park is asking visitors to help keep wildlife wild.

Fire Restrictions in Effect Starting July 1, 2017
Recent hot, dry, and breezy weather has resulted in extremely dry vegetation fuels throughout the park. Because of the very high fire danger, fire restrictions will take effect on July 1, 2017.

Traditional Hopi Dances, July 1-2, 2017
On Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2, the Lomayestewa Family of Shungopovi Village, Second Mesa, Arizona will perform traditional Hopi dances at the Visitor and Research Center in Mesa Verde National Park. Performances begin at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.

“We are particular to preserve....”: The Wetherills and their Archaeological Investigations at Mesa Verde and Beyond
Harvey Leake, great-grandson of John Wetherill, will discuss the activities of his ancestors and their archaeological investigations in the area on Friday, June 16, at 7:00 pm at the Visitor and Research Center, located at the entrance of Mesa Verde National Park. This program is part of the 2017 Four Corner Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

Watercolor painter Larry Hughes will serve as Mesa Verde National Park’s Artist in Residence from May 1 through May 13, 2017. Larry will offer two free programs during his residency -- the first on May 11 in Parque de Vida in Cortez, and the second, on May 12 in Mesa Verde National Park.

Mesa Verde National Park Increases Entrance Fees
Beginning January 2, 2017, entrance fees to Mesa Verde National Park have increased. Fees are good for entrance to Mesa Verde National Park for up to 7 days. Entrance fees are not charged to persons under 16 years of age or holders of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, Senior, Access, Military, or Volunteer Passes or the Annual 4th Grade Pass. These passes may be obtained at the park.
