The Ancestral Pueblo people were also artists and traders – trading with a network of tribes to bring shells such as these from the Gulf of California to wear as ornamental jewelry. Artifacts found in the cliff dwellings offer much evidence of trades, such as Macaw feathers from Central America, turquoise from New Mexico, and copper bells from Mexico. Due to extensive trading as well as local production, many different types of jewelry have been found at Mesa Verde sites. Back to Artifact Gallery's main page |
