Manzanar National Historic Site’s visitor center will be open 9:00 am to 4:30 pm every day beginning July 1, 2022. “We look forward to having our visitor center opened seven days a week to accommodate summer travelers,” said Superintendent Brenda Ling. “Visitors will have more of an opportunity to learn about Manzanar, a dark chapter in American history which should never happen again.” More than 117,000 people visited Manzanar in 2021.

The visitor center features 8,000 square feet of exhibits as well as a bookstore operated by the non-profit Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association. Photographer Shane Sato’s “Go For Broke Spirit” exhibit is currently featured showing contemporary—and contemplative—photos of Japanese American veterans of World War II.Manzanar’s Block 14 barracks, mess hall, and latrine interpret the experiences of individuals, families, and communities incarcerated at Manzanar. They are open daily from 9:00 am to 4:15 pm. The site itself is open from dawn to dusk, offering a 3-mile self-guided auto tour as well as opportunities to explore Manzanar on foot.
