INDEPENDENCE, Calif. — The visitor center at Manzanar National Historic Site will be closed Monday, Nov. 4 and Friday, Nov. 8 due to lack of water for fire protection.
The pump that supplies the Manzanar Visitor Center with water will be turned off for maintenance during that time. Portable restrooms will be available outside the visitor center during the closure.
National Park Service rangers and Eastern Sierra Interpretative Association staff will be available outside the building from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to offer basic visitor services.
The interpretive exhibits inside the Block 14 barracks and the mess hall will remain open and accessible seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. The grounds, including the 3.2 mile driving tour road, are open daily during daylight hours.
