ATLANTA - Superintendent Judy Forte announces the April schedule of events for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park to mark the 54th Anniversary of the Assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, and ending Monday, April 11, 2022.Superintendent Forte said, “We are honored to be able to fully host the Annual King Remembrance Wreath-Laying Ceremony on Monday, April 4, 2022, in a candlelit setting at the Heritage Sanctuary of Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church.” Forte also stated that “Members of the King Family, The King Center, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Ebenezer Baptist Church and Southern Christian Leadership Conference have been invited to share their memories about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” The event will begin at 5:15 PM. Afterwards, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony on the outside of the Historic Church.
Schedule of Events:
April 4 - April 11 - Placement of a commemorative wreath on the exterior of Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church will remain in position, until April 11th, to document the assassination (April 4, 1968) and the funerals (April 9, 1968) of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
April 9, (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) – A symbolic wreath will be displayed on the front porch of the King Birth Home, offering the visitors an opportunity to reflect on the life and legacy of Rev. D. Martin Luther King, Jr.Historic documentation of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be posted on the park’s social media platforms.
