This year’s campout will virtually celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Legacy Campout and the 41thanniversary of the establishment of Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. Join us for a fun night “camping-in-place” with special guest speakers, inspiring celebrities, a movie screening, and other fun virtual activities! The Legacy Campout caters to students between the ages of 11 and 15. Students are encouraged to register early as the 70 available spots for this free event will likely be filled quickly. The event will center around the theme of environmental justice and will engage students in thinking about how we can overcome the impacts of our changing climate. Presented with the idea that “all life is interrelated,” as Dr. King once said, students will reflect on the role that we all play in our environment. As a commitment to provide diverse youth with an opportunity to experience the outdoors in an innovative way, the Legacy Campout is one of the park’s signature events. MLK Jr. NHP has partnered with GYF over the past 11 years to offer this amazing camping experience and community service opportunity to urban youth in the Metro Atlanta area.
MLK Jr. NHP and GYF have joined together with its valued partners to ensure that these events will positively contribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and introduce youth to indelible icons like Coretta Scott King and other important figures in America’s civil rights movement. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?” Through partnerships, GYF and MLK Jr. NHP have provided training and career experiences to hundreds of young people in becoming responsible stewards of natural and cultural resources.Superintendent Judy Forte states: “We are excited to partner with the Greening Youth Foundation for the 11th year to provide an outstanding opportunity for youth to be inspired by the life and legacy of Dr. King and connect with the natural world.”Please visit www.nps.gov/malu and follow us on Twitter @MLKJrNHSNPS, Facebook MartinLutherKingJrNPS, and Instagram @martinlutherkingjrnps.
