ATLANTA--The Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historical Park and its partnering organization, the Greening Youth Foundation, will host the 10th annual Legacy Campout on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. In past years this event was held on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historical Park, but due to the pandemic, the event will be held virtually. The festivities will continue through Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Noon, when the park celebrates its 40th Anniversary of its establishment and commemorates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment (Women’s Suffrage) with the opening of an outdoor exhibition entitled “Coretta Scott King: Protecting, Planning, Preserving”.The Legacy Campout is a free event that offers a unique forum to expose local youth to outdoor recreation and its links to a healthy lifestyle. Superintendent Judy Forte said, “the goal of the Legacy Campout is to have youth participate in activities that express their ideas, thoughts and concerns about current social issues within the context of fulfilling Dr. King’s dream for our nation and world”. The theme for this year’s Legacy Campout is, resilience, which is quite appropriate given the challenges experienced thus far in 2020.Special guest speakers, inspiring words from celebrities and fun outdoor activities will be virtually presented. Angelou Ezeilo, Founder and CEO of the Greening Youth Foundation said, “we are excited about partnering with the National Park Service to virtually provide youth with a unique camping experience”.
