This weekend, all four of us got to go with volunteer Audrey Sisel to her hometown of Washington, DC! The famous Japanese cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom and a lot of people (and puppies!) were taking advantage of the nice spring day to see our nation’s capital!
Our first stop, of course, was the Jefferson Memorial! Thomas Jefferson was the president who authorized both the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark’s expedition. From there, we walked to the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, the Reflecting Pool, and the Lincoln Memorial!
The last stop was the United States Capitol Building. Every state is allowed two statues of famous figures in the Capitol and it just so happens that one of North Dakota’s statues is a familiar face: Sacagawea (Sakakawea)! We had to go see her!
All in all, it was a great trip!
