Lake Roosevelt NRA is planning to burn three units in the spring of 2008, which includes 20 acres near North Lake Roosevelt Resort, 50 acres near North Gorge and 60 acres near Rickey Point.

The primary objective of these burns is to decrease forest fuel loads adjacent to campgrounds, residences and structures.  Resulting benefits include:

·         Reduction of smaller fuels (primary fire carriers)

·         Increase of available nutrients to residual trees and understory

·         Increase of understory plant species diversity

·         Opening of sites for natural seeding of overstory trees

Favorable weather conditions for burning are most likely during April.  Ignition is expected to occur over several days with the majority of residual burning taking place a couple of days following ignition.

If you have any questions about these prescribed burns, future burning or other components of fire management at Lake Roosevelt, please feel free to call Tod Johnson at the Fire Management Office in Marblemount (360)854-7350 or stop by the Kettle Falls District Office.
