The Harbor Bay landscape has experienced a great deal of change because of the fluctuations of Canadian River. Much of the lower reaches were recently flooded with the completion of the Sanford Dam in 1965. Cottonwoods and tall grasses provide habitat for birds and amphibians along riparian zones and creeks. The rocky slopes provide habitats for many kinds of plants, grasses, and wildflowers. Look for interesting flowers along the trail in April - July, such as the Plains Prickly Pear.
