NPS Photo

Wildflowers bloom along several habitats along the trail. Be on the lookout for the Common Sunflower. This wildflower was of great use to Native Americans for medicines, dyes, and also food. The seeds can be eaten raw, cooked, or roasted. Black dyes have been made from the seeds and yellow dyes made from the flowers. Wild birds of several species eat these seeds.
