10D LABE‑VRP Opening Order # 26‑002A September 1, 2026 Reopening of Schonchin Butte Road and Trail Under the authority provided to the Superintendent in 36 CFR 1.5, the temporary closure of the Schonchin Butte Road and trail is hereby lifted. The road, trail, and fire lookout are now open to the public. Authority: 36 CFR 1.5 Notice: This administrative order applies to all individuals subject to the regulatory authority of the National Park Service (NPS) within the boundaries of Lava Beds National Monument, including park visitors, government employees, concession employees, park residents, and stakeholders. Finding: Emergency repairs and rehabilitation work on the Schonchin Butte fire lookout have been successfully completed. Conditions at the lookout now allow for safe public access. The hazardous environment created by construction activities no longer exists, and visitor use may resume without posing risks to public safety or interfering with park operations. Effective immediately, the Schonchin Butte Road, trail, and fire lookout are fully reopened for public use. |
