Become a Kings Mountain National Military Park Volunteer!

Kings Mountain National Military Park is a hidden jewel within the National Park System. The compelling history preserved here gives us a window into the struggle for liberty and independence in the Carolina backcountry during one of the darkest periods of the Revolutionary War. Interpreting and protecting this important part of our history would be impossible without the dedicated team of volunteers who contribute countless hours of their time to promote and support “America’s Best Idea.”

Kings Mountain National Military Park needs dedicated volunteers to help accomplish our mission. The duty of the National Park Service is to preserve the site for future generations and provide opportunities for visitors to understand this substantial history.

Why Volunteer?

Whether you are retired and looking for a way to give back to the community, a college student looking for valuable career experience, or someone actively working and just looking for an occasional change of pace, there are opportunities for you as a volunteer at Kings Mountain National Military Park.

People have many reasons for volunteering. Some want to give back to their community, some need volunteer or internship hours for school credit, while others just enjoy meeting new people. Regardless of the reason you volunteer you will find unexpected rewards. As a volunteer, you can experience the park in ways that casual visitors cannot, by working in areas less traveled or gaining insight into park operations when working with staff. You have the opportunities for fun, interesting, and satisfying work while gaining new skills and meeting new people in a beautiful and historic setting. By giving your time as a volunteer, you will find that Kings Mountain National Military Park has much to give back to you

What do Volunteers Do?

There are many ways to volunteer at Kings Mountain National Military Park, working both independently and alongside park staff. While helping preserve and share this special place volunteers get to experience the park in many unique ways.

  • Working in our visitor center and greeting visitors as they enter the park, giving them all the information they need to have a memorable experience.
  • Assisting our interpretive staff as a tour guide or living history demonstrator. Learn how to fire a flintlock musket or rifle and make history come alive for our visitors.
  • Join our maintenance crew and help (literally) keep the park gates open. Carpentry, landscaping, painting, cleaning, and so much more are vital for the health of the park.

Whatever skills or interests you possess; you can find meaningful opportunities to get involved at YOUR National Park! Training or experience is always appreciated but not necessary.
