CALUMET, Mich. –– Keweenaw National Historical Park, the Keweenaw NHP Advisory Commission, Isle Royale and Keweenaw Parks Association, and the Quincy Mine Hoist Association will unveil three new sculptures at the Quincy Smelter (48991 Maple St, Hancock, MI), on Wednesday, July 30, at 10:00 a.m. All members of the public are invited to attend.

These new sculptures continue the project started last year with Keweenaw NHP and its partners to commission art that depicts the workers and families who were once sprawled densely throughout the Copper Country. Artist Kasey Koski has captured those themes through the metal of her sculptures.

This year, new interpretive artwork is installed at the Quincy Smelter and the Quincy Mine Hoist that enables visitors to envision these now silent places as they once were, noisy, bustling, busy places of work. After the unveiling at the Quincy Smelter site, participants will be invited to the Quincy Mine Hoist site to explore that new work on their own.

Koski is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and educator living in Wenatchee, Washington. From 2015 to 2023, she served as exhibits curator for the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center and is currently serving as curator for the Chelan County Museum. Her ties to the Keweenaw run deep. She attended Finlandia University and is descended from mining immigrants to the Keweenaw.
