Keweenaw National Historical Park (NHP) is seeking applicants to fill two expired seats on the Keweenaw National Historical Park Advisory Commission. The Commission, composed of seven citizens appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, represents the public and the interests of their nominating body, and works collaboratively with the National Park Service to advise and assist with managing the resources of Keweenaw NHP. Appointees are expected to attend quarterly meetings and actively participate in matters that affect the Commission, Keweenaw NHP, and the Keweenaw Heritage Sites as well as other partners throughout the Copper Country. Commission members serve without compensation; however, travel expenses associated with Commission activities may be reimbursed in accordance with federal travel regulations. Applicants are being sought to fill the seat representing the Village of Calumet. In accordance with Public Law 102-543, the Village Council will submit two or more recommendations to the Secretary of the Interior for consideration and selection for a three-year term. Interested individuals should submit a letter stating their interest along with their résumé to: Village of Calumet, P.O. Box 46, Calumet, MI 49913, or deliver them to the Village offices at 340 Sixth Street during normal business hours, until close of business on April 30, 2008. Applicants are also being sought for an at-large seat representing the general public. The successful appointee will have familiarity with national parks and/or historic preservation. The position is appointed by the Secretary of the Interior and will serve for a three-year term.
