(Calumet, MI) The National Park Service at Keweenaw National Historical Park is offering a workshop to prepare for the Keweenaw Heritage Grants – 2009. The targeted audience for the workshop is owners of historic property within the Quincy and Calumet units of the park. The workshop will be held at Park Headquarters, located at the corner of Red Jacket Road and US Highway 41 in Calumet on Monday, June 8 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All potential applicants for the 2009 Keweenaw Heritage Grants program are strongly encouraged to attend. The workshop will inform attendees of specific expectations of grantees. It will inform attendees of the process to obtain grants through Federal Financial Assistance programs including an introduction to Grants.gov, the government-wide system for searching grant opportunities and fulfilling the application requirements that accompany Federal grant programs. Special emphasis will be placed on the Keweenaw Heritage Grants – 2009, and the steps that applicants will need to take toward a successful award. Discussions will include past project awards and examples of potentially successful project awards for the 2009 program. The purpose of the 2009 grants will be to provide enhancement funds for a broad range of projects and programs including, but not limited to, historic façade rehabilitation, cyclic historic maintenance, historic landscape preservation, preservation planning and design, museum collections preservation and care, development of interpretive exhibits and programs, interpretive publications, sustainable interpretation and preservation pilot programs, and other preservation and heritage-related projects. Greater consideration will be given to proposals that address accessibility, safety, and sustainability. Projects are to be started and completed in 2009 and 2010. Grants will range between $1,000 and $50,000 (a total of $30,000 to $50,000 is expected to be available in 2009). Grant funds are typically available to successful grantees by October 1, 2009. The park’s recently amended legislation requires that a $1 cash match for every $1 of National Park Service funds. Beginning Monday, June 8, applications will be available at park headquarters, located at 25970 Red Jacket Road in Calumet, by calling park headquarters at 906-337-3168, or by download from the park's grants web page. The short-response applications are to be delivered to park headquarters by the close of business on Monday, June 29, 2009. Projects will be selected for funding based on answers submitted in the application, available funds, and a balance of project types and location. For additional information, please contact park headquarters at (906) 337-3168 or by email. |
