“When California was wild, it was one sweet bee-garden throughout its entire length, north and south, and all the way across from the snowy Sierra to the ocean.” —John Muir, 1894. The Mountains of California.

Join National Park Service rangers and UC Davis Entomologists for a hands-on learning adventure on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at John Muir National Historic Site (NHS) in Martinez, CA. This free, two-hour program begins at 2 PM in the Visitor Center. Come and meet live insect and arachnid friends, learn about what we have in common with these creatures and how we differ from them. Crafts and other fun activities await you!

This free program is open to all ages and no reservations are required. If you have questions, please visit the event page: www.facebook.com/johnmuir/events or call the John Muir NHS Visitor Center at (925) 228-8860.

Created in 1964, John Muir NHS preserves the home, landscapes, and gravesite of conservationist and national park advocate John Muir. Muir spent his entire life exploring, studying, and writing about his experiences in the American wilderness, most notably the Sierra Nevada Mountains. His writing set the stage for a conservation movement that would spur the protection of nature worldwide and ultimately earn Muir the title “Father of the National Parks”.

The John Muir NHS, located at 4202 Alhambra Avenue, Martinez, CA 94553, is open seven days a week from 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission to the site is free of charge. For more information, please visit the park website at www.nps.gov/jomu or call (925) 228-8860.
