NPS May 28- Objects from the Johnstown Flood. This program is part of our special programming for the 135th anniversary of the Johnstown Flood and is presented by guest speaker Tyler Garhart in the Visitor Center. Participants will move throughout the Visitor Center to view a variety of objects on display from the flood. June 25- The Pennsylvania Railroad and the 1889 Flood. This program is presented by park volunteer Brandon Sliko. The program will discuss Pennsylvania Railroad operations and deteriorating conditions on May 31, and the rebuilding of the railroad in the days and months following the disaster. July 23- Upcoming Projects at Johnstown Flood National Memorial. Park staff will provide updates on several projects at the park. Subject matter experts from various park divisions will speak about park-owned structures. These include the Club House, Double Cottage and Lippincott Cottage. Other highlights include Path of the Flood and 911 National Memorial trails, and a new addition to our museum collection on display in the Visitor Center. July 30- Disastrous Floods and the Demise of Steel in Johnstown. This program is presented by Dr. Patrick Farabaugh, Professor of Communications at Saint Francis University. Dr. Farabaugh will be discussing his new book, Disastrous Floods and the Demise of Steel in Johnstown. August 27- What We've Learned About the Cottages. The program is presented Doug Bosley, Supervisory Park Ranger. Recently discovered documents from the collection of John Kephart, at the Cambria County Historical Society, led society members and park staff to determine the original owners of all sixteen cottages. Participants will learn about the cottages and their respective owners. |
