Environmental Factors

Two persistent problems at Johnstown Flood National Memorial are non-native plants that are invading the native plant communities and acidic, abandoned mine drainage that flows through the park. Non-native plants that are highly invasive and threaten the park's resources include exotic bush honeysuckles, giant knotweed, and Japanese knotweed. Abandoned mine drainage that flows through the park originates upstream near the communities of Saint Michael and Beaverdale.
