CUSTER, SD – Jewel Cave National Monument will cease cave tours Monday, September 8 to Friday, September 12, 2025, to complete a planned back-up generator installation. The visitor center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on Thursday, September 11. The visitor center will not have power and will be closed on that day; however, the park will remain open. Items from the Black Hills Parks and Forest Association will be available to purchase in the park store when the visitor center is open. Rangers will offer guided hikes on the Roof and Canyons trails and patio talks during the project. Visitors will continue to have the opportunity to hike the surface trails in the monument on their own. Cave tours are expected to resume on Saturday, September 13, 2025, and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis at the ticket kiosk. Any additional updates will be announced on social media and the park website’s Alerts & Conditions page. Visit www.nps.gov/jeca to stay up to date on park operations. You can also visit the Jewel Cave Facebook and Instagram pages for more park news.
