Jewel Cave National Monument will celebrate National Park Week with several activities on Saturday, April 19. These activities include a bird count, fee-free cave tours, and a “Discovery Hour” presentation.The Bring Your Own Binoculars bird count event is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to pre-register, bring their own binoculars, and dress appropriately for the weather.
Jewel Cave will celebrate National Park Week by offering Scenic and Discovery Tours for free on April 19. Visit recreation.gov for reservations. On-site requests are first-come, first serve. Note, visitors interested in cave tours must wear fully enclosed shoes. A light jacket is recommended. The cave is 49 degrees.
To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the discovery of Jewel Cave, the site has been hosting monthly Discovery Hour presentations. The Discovery Hour presentation on April 19 will be at 1:00 p.m. and feature the history of the National Park Service from lead interpretive park ranger, Kierstan Basey.
