James A. Garfield National Historic Site will begin its winter hours of operation on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.  The Site’s winter hours will be Friday-Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.  The Site’s buildings will be closed to the public Monday-Thursday; the grounds will be open daily, including on days the buildings are closed.

Guided tours of the Garfield home will be offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.  Reservations are only required for groups of six or more. All others are invited to come in during open hours and be placed on the next available tour.

The Site’s winter hours will be in effect through Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

“We’re excited to offer visitors three days per week during the winter season to visit James A. Garfield National Historic Site and tour the Garfield home,” said Site Manager Todd Arrington.  “Even on the days our buildings are closed, visitors are invited to walk the grounds, read outdoor exhibit panels, and enjoy our cell phone tours.”

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Avenue (U.S. 20) in Mentor, Ohio, approximately 25 miles east of Cleveland.  The site offers guided tours of the Garfield home, museum exhibits, and an introductory film.  The National Park Service completely restored the house in the late 1990s, making it one of the most impressive presidential homes preserved for the public.
