Tent Camping Closed at Multiple East End Campgrounds

Due to increased human-wildlife interactions and food storage concerns, individual tent sites and group sites at Three Mile, Daisy Farm, Moskey Basin, and Caribou Island Campgrounds are currently closed.
Tent and hammock camping are not permitted anywhere within the campground.
Off-trail camping zones 10, 11, 12, 13, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 are closed.
Shelters remain open.
Closed areas will be patrolled to ensure compliance.
Red Rocks Fire: 100% contained.

Duncan Narrows Campground: As of August 4, 2026, the closure has been lifted and Duncan Narrows Campground and Dock are fully open.
- Food storage and wolf activity at campgrounds throughout the park will continue to be monitored.
- Additional regulations and new closures could occur during the remainder of the season if necessary.
- Food, trash, and scented items must be stored in animal-resistant, hard-sided containers or food storage lockers.

Variable Conditions: Shorelines can be cold, while inland areas and ridges can be hot. Temperatures can swing 20+/- degrees. Pack variable layers and prepare for hot and humid ridgelines in full sun, and intermittent cold nights.

Island Mine Stream: Low. Plan water stops along your route.
There are currently algal blooms in Lake Richie and Intermediate Lake.
Suspected blooms are tested for toxin levels and monitored when possible. Toxin levels are consistently low on Isle Royale.
- It is not recommended to filter water in any areas where there is surface scum, strong odors, or other evidence of a significant bloom.
- Blooms move around depending on wind and rain – filter water from places where blooms are not present or a different water source.
- It is low risk to filter water from relatively clear areas of an impacted water source.

Bug Report: There are many, many mosquitos and black flies. Consider packing bug spray and/or a head net.
- Wasps: Wasps are prevalent in around structures such as shelters and pavillions.
Wolf activity is high on both ends of the island. Proper food storage considerations are critical.
- Follow food storage regulations.
- Review wildlife safety information.
- Wolf hazing efforts are ongoing to deter negative wolf behavior.
- Report any wolf sightings to a ranger as soon as possible.
Cow moose are with calves. Maintain caution when encountering moose and maintain a safe distance.

Daisy Farm Campground: Beaver activity is changing the landscape of this campground. Expect wet conditions.

Trails have been cleared of downed trees, but they may still exist on trails. Expect slow hiking conditions.
Trails are relatively dry.
The Greenstone Ridge Trail between Daisy Farm Campground and East Chickenbone Campground is flooded due to beaver activity.
- A reroute in this area has been flagged. Follow to the flagging north of the trail to a rock outcrop, reconnecting with the trail in approximately 150 yards near the west end of Angleworm Lake.
Cairns (rock stacks): Rock cairns are intentionally placed for navigation purposes. Do not knock down cairns or build new cairns.
