Isle Royale Reflection

Artistic clarity is what I found on Isle Royale--a true breath of fresh air. I had time to stop and watch the sun sparkle off the shoreline, to kneel to take pictures of the tiny ecosystems thriving between the rocks, to examine the blended colors of dried lichen carpeting the boulders, to discover the little things that excite me.
Same is true for my painting “The Vibrance of Life”. I wanted to illustrate the rainbows in the rocks, the magic of the lichen, and most importantly the remote, hidden lives of wildlife on the island.

About the Artist

Allison Clarke was an Isle Royale Teen Artist in Residence from June 22nd to June 26th, 2021 and a returning Artist in Residence in 2024. She is an aspiring artist that has a passion for painting and the outdoors. Her family in Wisconsin set a tradition of camping every summer which enriched her childhood with an appreciation for the forests and lakes of the Midwest. Allison recently graduated Edgewood College in 2024 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Therapy and is currently pursuing a professional art career.
