INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK: Celebrate Pollinator Week at Indiana Dunes National Park and learn how you can help protect butterflies, bees and the other pollinators that are critical for a healthy world. A week of hikes, talks and other activities will culminate with a dedication ceremony of the new interactive Pollinator Trail in the national park’s Miller Woods on Saturday, June 24th at 1:00 pm. This day will also feature half-hour kids hikes at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm, an hour-long hike of Miller Woods at 2:00 pm, a Pollinator/Native Gardening talk presented by Save the Dunes from 11:00 am -11:45 am, a Junior Pollinator worksheet and arts and crafts activities, as well as food vendors in the parking lot. The Friends of Indiana Dunes and Save the Dunes will also have information to share about their organizations.

But there’s a whole lot more fun to this week. Park staff will be available from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm on June 20 – 24, at the Douglas Center to share information on pollinator habitat projects going on in the park. In addition, half-hour Pollinator Hikes for Kids will be offered at the center at 1:00 pm on June 20, 21, 22, and 23. Pollinator Hikes in Miller Woods take place on June 20 and June 23 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Hikes on pollinators at Mnoke Prairie will be led on June 21 and June 22 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm.

Presentations on pollinators will also be offered. On June 20 and June 21, at 11:00 am join national park scientist Desi Robertson-Thompson in the Douglas Center auditorium to learn about the park’s pollinators and what we can all do to help protect them. On June 22 and June 23, at 11:00 am, join Jennifer Lute, Education Coordinator for the LaPorte County Soil and Conservation District, at the Douglas Center to learn about the different pollinators and what we can do to help protect them and their habitats.
