The Founding Father's Day Fitness Stroll: Saving National Treasures Step by Step is a great way to get outdoors, get some exercise and help save our national treasures. Philadelphia, home to Independence National Historical Park, boasts two of our nation's greatest treasures: Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. The best way to support Independence National Historical Park is to become a Friend of Independence, a non-profit that has supported this national park for almost 40 years.

Following First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move campaign, the Friends of Independence is promoting healthy living and challenging their friends, supporters, neighbors and visitors to get healthy with them. The Friends of Independence, with permission from Delaware River Port Authority, will be using the south side walkway of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge -- a round trip of 3.1 miles on a 6 degree incline. Participants are welcome to go the entire length of the bridge or make it a shorter stroll, there are no requirements.

Thomas Jefferson is the featured Founding Father. As an advocate for healthy living, he will be available at the National Constitution Center to discuss his thoughts on exercise and diet as well as lead participants to the bridge.

This is a family-friendly event, all ages are welcomed to attend. Pets are welcomed at the National Constitution Center but they will not be allowed on the bridge due to safety concerns. All participants will receive a free t-shirt for participating and will have an opportunity to have a group shot in front of Independence Hall after the stroll.
