The Greater Yellowstone Network is one of 32 Inventory and Monitoring Networks across the country. The National Park Service established these networks to facilitate collaboration, information sharing, and economies of scale in natural resource monitoring. We measure key indicators of ecological integrity, or “vital signs.” These results inform park managers about the health of park resources and the dynamic ecosystems in which they occur. They can also provide early detection of potential problems.
Network staff work collaboratively with a Board of Directors and Technical Committee. These committees are composed of superintendents and natural resource managers from network parks. This team of park managers and network staff work together to steer the direction of long-term monitoring and ensure that program goals are being met. The Inventory and Monitoring Division of the National Park Service's Washington Office provides guidance and oversight.
