Highlights of the Year

The year 2025 was full of events in celebration of the park's 10th anniversary since joining the National Park Service. Throughout this year, the community had showed up time and time again to learn and share the history of the Hawaiian islands and stories of injustice and harship. Together, we will continue to inspire future generations to pursue freedom and justice while reflecting on these wartime experiences.

A look back on 2025:

What did we accomplish together?

• Hosted over 50 events
• Reached over 4,000 people with these events, and this doesn't even count our pop-up exhibits that were held throughout the year which may have touched hundreds of more in our communities
• Multiple media stories
• Grew our social media (FB and IG) from 0 to 614 followers
• Special recognition by:
  • the Council of the City and County of Honolulu introduced by Council member Matt Weyer
  • A congratulations letter from former President Barack Obama, who established the park in 2015.

Other park accomplishments this year include:

• Growing our team from one person to a total of three
• Establishing the park's museum collection and accessioning several artifacts, oral histories, and historic documents and research
• Starting the park's official volunteer program with over 20 volunteers now signed up
• Engaged with schools reaching over 200 students
• Established a regular vegetation maintenance cycle to preserve our historic structures
• Completed successful restoration of historic aqueduct
• Kicked off the park's multi-year general management plan process which will determine public visitation to the park
• With the support of the park's non-profit partner Pacific Historic Parks:
  • Stood up our bookstore with proceeds going to support the park's educational efforts with schools and our communities
  • Started a membership and donation program
  • Began Hidden Histories speaker series.
