Shakespeare’s work was known and admired by many homesteaders and pioneer families. These individuals would read and recite his works for educational and entertainment purposes. Throughout these towns and settlements, Shakespeare would grow into a cultural icon. Performing his works’ represented growth and success in your community. As Nebraska celebrates its sesquicentennial year this performance is set in the year Nebraska became a state, 1867.

“We are excited to partner with Flatwater Shakespeare Company to bring this production to Homestead National Monument of America. The restored tallgrass prairie at Homestead National Monument of America will be a great backdrop for this production. ” stated Superintendent Mark Engler.

This production will kick-off the 2017 Summer Campfire Series which is set to take place each Saturday from July 1 – August 12, 2017. The programs will consist of an informative presentation followed by a musical performance. Bring your family, friends, and a lawn chair! All programs are free.
