Free Fiddling and Harmonica Workshops

Practice your fiddle and learn how to play the harmonica at theTallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival!

The Fiddle

At 10 a.m. at the Homestead Education Center Deborah Greenblatt will offer a free fiddling workshop to fiddlers of all ages and abilities. Fiddlers must bring their own fiddle.

Deborah Greenblatt has been teaching, performing, composing, recording, and writing professionally since 1971. She received her degree in violin performance from Boston University School of Fine Arts.

Deborah was the first woman to win the Nebraska State Fiddling Championship as well as the Mid-America Fiddle Championship. She was inducted into the Mid-America Old-Time Fiddler’s Hall of Fame and is a past President of the Nebraska American String Teachers Association.

Deborah sings and plays a wide variety of styles of music from various cultures on fiddle, violin, viola, recorders, guitar, banjo, mandolin, hammered dulcimer, baritone ukulele, mountain dulcimer and nyckelharpa.

The Harmonica

Also at 10 a.m. in the Homestead Education Center, David Seay will offer a free harmonica workshop. Harmonicas will be available for purchase from the Homestead bookstore.

David sings, plays over a dozen instruments, teaches private music lessons, and conducts workshops, most notably in harmonica.

Combining his passions for music, history, and storytelling, David has presented Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau programs since 1997. He is a master artist with the Nebraska Arts Council’s Artist in Schools/Communities Residency Program (over 30 years).
