With the fall hunting season underway, Homestead National Monument of America Superintendent Mark Engler reminds the public that hunting and trapping within the boundaries of the Monument are prohibited.

The National Park Service was established in 1916 to help preserve our nation's natural and cultural heritage. Most National Park Service areas have been set aside as places where plant and animal communities can exist in their natural state with little interference from humans. Within Homestead National Monument of America, plants, animals and natural habitats are preserved. Deer and other wildlife may not be hunted, trapped, or otherwise disturbed.

For the protection of the public and the monument resources, the discharge of a firearm or use of a bow and arrow are also prohibited within the park's boundaries.

Although hunting is not allowed within the park, Superintendent Engler encourages anyone with an interest in viewing or photographing wildlife to bring their binoculars or cameras to the monument, one of Nebraska's designated Watchable Wildlife areas. Visit the park and observe wildlife in their natural surroundings.
