Get a Tune-Up for the Summer at the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival! Does your fiddle need a tune up? Need some advice about your banjos broken bridge? If so, you need a luthier! A luthier is a person who makes and repairs stringed instruments. You are invited to bring your stringed instrument issues to the Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival at Homestead National Monument of America onSaturday, May 23, 2015and visit with luthier Marilyn Wallin. While at the monument, Wallin will provide free tune-up services for stringed instruments and discuss repair options. She will be at Homestead starting at10 a.m.and will continue to work with instruments through the afternoon. When asked to be a part of the music festival, she said "Yes!" She was excited at the idea of helping musicians clean and polish their stringed instruments, advise about repairs, and to be there "just in case..." for things that come up. Marilyn has been the past president of the Violin Society of America and part of some of the biggest music stages in America, working with such groups as the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and many others. "She is a well-known, well respected and personable instrument maker and we are fortunate to have her join us for the Fiddle Festival." stated Superintendent Mark Engler. The Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival, formerly known as the Monumental Fiddling Championship, has been celebrating music from the homesteading period for over a decade. Music was a common thread among pioneers of all ages. The Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival is free for competitors and spectators alike. Music fans wanting to spend the whole day at the Monument can do so. Back Alley Eatery will be on hand to serve lunch and drinks. Thanks to the Coffin Family Foundation, the Grand Ole Opry and Corvallis, Oregon violin maker Nancy Rohn, for providing prizes and making this event possible.
