Find Your Park with Artist-in-Residence Mackenzie Younger

at Homestead National Monument of America

Mackenzie Younger will be the third artist of the 2015 Artist- in-Residence program at Homestead National Monument of America. He will be presenting a program based on his work at the monument on April 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Education Center. This is the seventh year of the monument's Artist-in-Residence program.

A native New Yorker, Mackenzie began using his creative abilities to explore the natural world. "Observation, self-expression, and the environment define who I am,"  stated Mackenzie. He studied fine art at Rhode Island School of Design and also took botany classes at Brown University. Since school he has professionally painted murals portraying habitats, designed native plant gardens, and taught classes such asArt &Ecology

For his residency at Homestead National Monument of America, Mackenzie plans to study and document the local ecology, while logging information into an illustrated journal. This journal will then be used as a reference for an educational mural, publication, or garden, depending on the needs of the monument. His public program will use the journal and illustrations to explain plant-wildlife-human relationships found within or near the monument.

Mackenzie will be working throughout the area of Homestead National Monument of America April 16 through April 30. He enjoys talking and welcomes sharing his art and creative abilities with all visitors.
