The schedule for the 2018 Homestead Days has been set! Experience the life of a homesteader during the Homestead Days Celebration at Homestead National Monument of America on starting Friday June 22th continuing through Sunday June 24th.
The theme for the 2018 Homestead Days event is “One Room Schools!” We invite you to Homestead National Monument of America to re-connect and learn more about one-room schoolhouses, country schools, and the importance of education on the frontier. Traditional art demonstrators will share the skills of the past in and around the Homestead Education Center. A Children’s Festival will take place at the Homestead Heritage Center on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, including musical performances by the Mighty Magic Pants Band!
New this year! Be on the look-out for special appearances made by the man who signed the Homestead Act, Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Dr. Gene Griessman. Griessman is a motivational speaker using President Lincoln’s wisdom. Also, new this year, Paul Siebert, a tried-and-true teacher from a one-room schoolhouse will entertain and education while telling stories and singing songs from the Good Ole Days of country schools.
