WEST BRANCH, IOWA— A Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) is currently being issued by the National Park Service (NPS). The RFEI allows interested parties to submit their concept(s) of potential future adaptive use for three historic houses within Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, considering the park’s purpose. The historic houses are located within the park’s historic district and are known as Staples (2,100 sq ft), Wright (1,440 sq ft), and Hayhurst Houses (1,700 sq ft). Combined the square footage for which this RFEI seeks concepts is 5,200 square feet.

The three houses were constructed in the 1870’s and together contribute to the historic setting to Herbert Hoover’s birth. All three houses were previously used as park housing in support of park operations and maintenance. Additional information on the facilities, park, and process are available in the RFEI.

Copies of the RFEI are available for downloading at https://www.nps.gov/heho/getinvolved/upload/Staples-Wright-Hayhurst-House-HEHO-RFEI-FINAL-508-2-5-2021.pdf or you may contact Superintendent Peter S. Swisher at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, 110 Parkside Drive, PO Box 607, West Branch, Iowa 52358, and by phone at (319) 643-2541, and by email at pete_swisher@nps.gov.

Site visits of the houses may be scheduled by appointment from March 1, 2021 through July 16, 2021, 2021. All parties intending to request a site visit must send an email message to the contact listed.
