WEST BRANCH, IOWA— Celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 31 at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. From 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., living history interpreters will demonstrate games, soap making, rug making, tatting, embroidery, basket making, tintype photography, and other activities from life in 19th century West Branch. Games and crafts demonstrations by costumed volunteers take place near the Herbert Hoover Birthplace Cottage. Visit the 1853 West Branch Schoolhouse for historic school teaching activities.

Civil War Remembrance Day begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum with a discussion and concert of Civil War music by the acclaimed Marengo Civil War Band. Following the concert at 2:15 p.m., Civil War re-enactors from the 24th Iowa Infantry will display their equipment and discuss camp life and combat during the war. The program will repeat at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the National Historic Site is free. There will be free admission to the Civil War Remembrance Day program in the Presidential Library and Museum, but the regular admission charge to go through the museum galleries will still apply.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 off I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Parking is limited so please allow extra time to find a parking space.
