Herbert Hoover rose to greatness, despite his humble beginnings in a small town in Iowa. On six dates this summer, May 28, June 23, July 21, August 4, August 25, and September 3, living history interpreters will rove the historic grounds and demonstrate crafts, games, music, school teaching, and other activities from life in 19th century West Branch.

Enjoy Fun and Games on May 28 and August 25 with games like croquet, pass the laugh, buzz, and game of the graces. Get involved with the daily chores and the Lives of the Settlers on June 23 and August 4. A Musical Celebration on July 21 and September 3. Join a celebration with live musicians and music demonstrations. The events run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and take place near the Herbert Hoover Birthplace Cottage.

A new feature of this year’s events is West Branch, 1879, a guided living history tour of the historic grounds and buildings. Archibald Lucas, a fictional character from 1879 shows you the town as its historic residents may have seen it. The guided living history tours meet in the Visitor Center Parking Lot at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 12:00 a.m., and 1:00 a.m. There will be no guided tours during Hooverfest on August 4.

For more information about the Living History events, call Herbert Hoover National Historic Site at (319) 643-2541 or the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association at (319) 643-5327.
