WEST BRANCH, IOWA— Herbert Hoover National Historic Site will display artwork by Iowa painter and pastel artist Diane Blair Kunzler in the Visitor Center until February 5, 2011. Ms. Kunzler grew up in southern Iowa, graduating in 1976 as an art major from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. She has experience teaching in public schools and community colleges in Iowa and Missouri. Ms. Kunzler is a founding member of the Pastel Society of Iowa and teaches pastel workshops throughout the state. Diane Blair Kunzler was an Artist-in-Residence at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site in 2007. Her pastel of the Herbert Hoover Birthplace Cottage is displayed at the Visitor Center with other works from past Artists-in-Residence. “Growing up in the rural Midwest,” said Mrs. Kunzler, “it is all but impossible not to have a connection with the land.” The paintings and pastels in the new exhibit are inspired by landscapes and natural features of the Midwest, including two paintings of the creek that trickles by the two-room cottage of Hoover’s birth. Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 off I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Parking is limited so please allow extra time to find a parking space. |
