WEST BRANCH, IOWA— Starting on June 1, 2008, Herbert Hoover National Historic Site will no longer charge an entrance fee to visit the park. The 187-acre National Historic Site includes Herbert Hoover’s birthplace, a working blacksmith shop, the 1857 Friends Meetinghouse, the 1853 West Branch Schoolhouse, the graves of President and Mrs. Hoover, and 81 acres of restored tallgrass prairie. Federal recreation passports, such as the Senior Pass, Access Pass, and Annual Pass, are still available for sale at the National Historic Site Visitor Center. Visitors will still be charged admission for the exhibits inside the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum. Admission to the exhibits is $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors (ages 62 and older), free for children under 16 years old, and free for members of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association. Admission to the museum includes the permanent Hoover exhibits plus temporary exhibits such as “Children in the White House: Featuring Caroline Kennedy’s Dolls,” on display until November 2, 2008. Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 of I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Parking is limited so please allow extra time to find a parking space. |
