Herbert Hoover National Historic Site has installed five new DOGIPOT courtesy dog litter bag stations along the park’s walkways. Once the dog’s waste is collected using the courtesy litter bags, the bags can be tied off and deposited in the litter bag stations or in any outdoor trash can. The courtesy litter bags will make it easier for dog walkers to help keep the park clean and safe.
Visitors must keep pets on a leash and under their physical control at all times and in all parts of the park, including the Village Green, the Loop Road area, and the tallgrass prairie. Pet owners must immediately collect their pet’s excrement and remove it from the site or dispose of it in an appropriate waste container. Pets are prohibited in buildings and may not be tied to objects or left unattended. Service animals, such as seeing-eye dogs, are allowed in buildings while performing their work.
For more about planning a visit with your pet, visit the Pets page on the National Historic Site’s website at www.nps.gov/heho/planyourvisit/pets.htm or call (319) 643-2541. The City of West Branch has similar leash and animal waste requirements for pets. The West Branch Police Department, (319) 643-2222, has more information about city animal control ordinances.
