WEST BRANCH, IOWA— Writer Laura Madeline Wiseman will be the Artist-in-Residence at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site from July 15 through August 1. Ms. Wiseman will be available to discuss her writing with park visitors in the afternoons, Wednesday through Sunday, during her residency. Her days and hours may vary so please call ahead. On Sunday, July 26, Ms. Wiseman will present a reading. The program starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center and is free.

Laura Madeline Wiseman is a PhD student in English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Ms. Wiseman’s great-great-great-grandmother Matilda Fletcher Wiseman, an Iowa native who lectured across the Midwest in the 19th century, inspires her current research and writing project. “These poems capture not only her life and work,” said Ms. Wiseman, “but also the natural landscape of the American West, where she was born and where she lived most of her life.”

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 off I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. Parking is limited so please allow extra time to find a parking space.
