Artist-in-Residence Jim Schlett Offers Sunset Walk, Presentation

West Branch, Iowa— Photographer Jim Schlett will lead a sunset photography walk and a presentation at Herbert Hoover National Historic Site this August. Mr. Schlett is this year’s Artist-in-Residence for the national park in West Branch, Iowa.

On Saturday, August 10, join Mr. Schlett for “Photography at the Magic Hour.” The Artist-in-Residence will discuss sunset photography during a walk through the tallgrass prairie. Bring your digital camera. The walk may be up to one mile and lasts about an hour. Dress for the weather and wear insect repellent. Meet at the tallgrass prairie observation deck by the gravesite parking lot at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

The following Saturday, August 17, Mr. Schlett shares pictures and tells stories about his time as the Artist-in-Residence at different national parks: Whiskeytown, Catoctin Mountain, Manassas, Gettysburg, Homestead, and Montezuma Castle. Meet at the Visitor Center at 2 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 off I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. For more information go online at www.nps.gov/herberthoover or call (319) 643-2541.
