Driving Hilina Pali Road is a scenic detour off Chain of Craters Road in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. This narrow, 9-mile single lane paved road leads through volcanic desert terrain to the dramatic Hilina Pali Overlook. Two-wheel drive vehicles can access this road, but the road is winding and remote. Start your visit at the Kīlauea Visitor Center for updates on road conditions and closures. Be prepared with water, layers, and sturdy shoes if you plan to explore. Weather can be windy and dry, and there are no services along the route. |
