March 2026 Notice of Flight Operations

HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaiʻi – Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for March 2026:

March 2 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. for external sling loads of fence material between 6,300- and 9,500-ft. elevation on Maunaloa.

March 3 between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. for survey and control of invasive trees in the Kueʻe/Pepeiao area from 1,000- and 2,000-ft elevation.

March 4 between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. for external sling loads of fence material between 6,300- and 9,500-ft. elevation on Maunaloa.

March 18 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. for invasive guinea grass control work in the coastal backcountry from sea level to 2,400-ft. elevation. 

March 23 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. for high resolution mapping of park coastline between sea level and 500-ft elevation to protect natural resources. 

March 23 and 26 between 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for native plant monitoring in the Pepeiao area between 500-ft and 2,500-ft elevation.

March 30 between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. for external sling loads of fence material between 6,300- and 9,500-ft. elevation on Maunaloa.

USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation. 

The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather. 

Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
