HAWAII NATIONAL PARK, Hawaiʻi – Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park announces flight operations for February 2026:
February 4 between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. for ungulate survey at Kahuku between 4,000- and 7,000-ft elevation.
February 6 between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. for passenger shuttles and external sling loads of fencing materials and camp gear for fence replacement on Mauna Loa between 6,300- and 9,200-ft. elevation.
February 23 and 26 between 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for native plant monitoring in the Kīlauea East Rift Zone between 1,500-ft and 2,500-ft elevation.
February 26 between 7 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to monitor ʻuaʻu (Hawaiian petrels) on Mauna Loa between 4,000- and 9,500-ft. elevation.
USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory may conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources, and to maintain backcountry facilities.
