Law enforcement-involved shooting at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii National Park, Hawaii -- On March 4 around 6 p.m., an officer-involved shooting occurred in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park at the Nāmakanipaio Campground. Hawai‘i Police Department was also on scene.

There is no active threat to the public. A portion of Highway 11 was closed at the intersection to the campground for several hours during the incident but has reopened. Nāmakanipaio Campground is open.
