The county opened the Paihi temporary bridge with a blessing on Sunday, Dec 04. The new bridge provides access to the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park.  The Kipahulu area including Oheo Gulch, Waimoku Falls, the visitor center and the campground is now open to the public. Road closures by the county beyond Kipahulu make it necessary for travelers to come and go from this section of the park using the Hana Highway -- there is no access between Kaupo and Kipahulu. This road closure also means that the Kaupo Trailhead is not accessible, so the Kaupo Trail remains closed indefinitely.

Park staff remind visitors that there is no water, food, camping supplies or fuel available after leaving Hana.  They also remind visitors to obey safety signs and invite everyone to come and have a safe visit.
