MCLEAN, Va.— The National Park Service (NPS) continues work on the North Parkway Rehabilitation Project, with new travel impacts beginning June 12.

Reversible Lane Discontinued June 16 – mid-July 2025: Starting June 16 through mid-July, northbound travel will be limited to one lane at all times between Fort Marcy and north of Route 123, weather permitting. The parkway configuration in this area prevents a crossover necessary for the reversible lane to function while crews complete repairs on the left northbound lane. Motorists can expect one travel lane in each direction at all times. The reversible lane pattern will remain in place between I-495 to just north of Route 123.

Ramp Closure June 12 - 13: The ramp from eastbound Route 123 to southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) will be closed on or around Thursday, June 12 through Friday, June 13, weather permitting, for asphalt paving work.

  • Detour Information: Motorists traveling on Route 123 will need to follow detour signs to northbound GWMP and around Turkey Run Loop to access southbound GWMP.
Ramp Closure June 16 – late July: Additionally, the ramp from the southbound GWMP to eastbound Route 123 will be closed from June 16 through late July, weather permitting. This closure is necessary for roadway demolition, asphalt paving, curb restoration, and landscaping along the ramp. During this time, motorists will not be able to access eastbound Route 123 from southbound GWMP.
  • Detour information: Motorists traveling on southbound GWMP should exit to westbound Route 123, make a u-turn at Merchant Lane, and proceed to eastbound Route 123.
Motorists are reminded to proceed with caution through work zones, watch out for crews and road debris, and observe the speed limit (40 miles per hour). Message boards and orange construction signs along the parkway provide important information and directions. Motorists can also view construction updates and opt-in to receive emails about traffic changes, meetings and major project milestones on the project webpage.
