You are invited to your national parks free of charge in recognition of National Public Lands Day! Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument Superintendent Steve Riley announced today that no entrance fee will be charged for visiting Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument on September 24, 2011. The multi-agency Gila Visitor Center is open from 8 am until 4:30 pm. The Gila Cliff Dwellings are open daily from 9 am until 4 pm, and while the trailhead gate closes at 4 pm, visitors have another hour in which to complete their visit.

Staff is available all day in the cliff dwellings to answer questions and a guided tour of the cliff dwellings is offered daily at 1 pm.  Those planning to attend the tour should begin hiking up from the trailhead contact station no later than 12:30 pm.  Visitors may also take the self-guided tour by obtaining a free copy of the Canyon Companion trail guide available at the trailhead.

In recognition of this fee-free day, Western National Parks Association will offer a 15% same-day discount on products at the Monument bookstore. Teachers and senior WNPA members will receive the standard 20% discount.

Visitors should dress for the weather, carry water, and wear shoes or boots suitable for rugged trail walking.
