Theme

Select a book for a park ranger to read and then explore its real-life battlefield setting.

1. The Eternal Soldier (a true story about a dog) and Oak Ridge

2. B is for Battle Cry and The Angle

3. I Am Abraham Lincoln and the site of the Gettysburg Address.

Goal

Join a park educator in exploring the battle through storybooks and literature. Understand the battle from a different perspective, through the lens of one of several books for young readers.

Objectives

The students will:
  • Understand the story of the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • Explore the place where their reading adventure really happened.
  • Discover differences between printed media and real life.

Your students will gain the most benefit from this program if they are prepared for their visit. The grade level of enclosed information may not be appropriate to the level of understanding of your students. We leave the interpretation of this information up to you.

Grade Level and Program Options

This program can be tailored to grades K-3. Please allow 60 minutes for this field trip option. 30 Students Maximum/10 Students Minimum
